Help me give my students new bins to put our books in, lots of magnets to display work and hang other things along the walls, and many other materials for the students to learn with!
I've taught at our school for 15 years. This is the first full school year at our new/temporary school. Last school year we lost our school in the Maui wildfires. The materials I'm requesting, such as bins, magnets, and other hands-on learning tools, will provide my students with the resources they need to thrive in our new classroom environment. These items will help foster curiosity and creativity while enabling students to engage in active, experiential learning. For example, magnets will be used for all sorts of things around our new magnetic walls, while the bins will help us organize our classroom and create accessible learning stations. By providing a range of learning materials, I aim to create a space where students can explore, experiment, and discover, ensuring they remain excited and motivated to learn despite the challenges they have faced.
My primary goal is to create a nurturing and stimulating environment where each student feels safe, valued, and inspired to learn.
These materials will help me facilitate differentiated learning activities, catering to each child's unique learning style and needs. I want my students to develop critical thinking skills, foster a love for learning, and build resilience as they overcome the trauma of losing their school and town in the August 8, Lahaina, Maui wildfires. By using engaging materials, I aim to make learning a joyful experience that helps my students regain a sense of normalcy and excitement in their educational journey.
My students are resilient, brave, and incredibly special because they have faced immense challenges following the wildfires that devastated our community. Despite the loss of our community members, our school, and our town, they have shown an incredible capacity for hope and perseverance.
