Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 7th and 8th grade Math and Science in a high needs NYC middle school. The school is classified as Title I. My student population is made up of English Language Learners. We need to print but are out of paper and ink.
My students work hard and often support their mothers and fathers by running household errands and watching younger siblings.
Unfortunately, another thing that my students have in common is that their families are struggling financially. Within my school, the majority of the students qualify for the state's free or reduced meal program. Some students even reside in shelters. Supplying my students/classroom with this printer toner and paper would be a small step, but it would give us one less obstacle to overcome.
My Project
Unfortunately due to the budget cuts schools are facing, teachers in my school are no longer being supplied with copy/printer paper or toner. Under the new Common Core standards rolling out nationwide, students are required to make use of technology. However few schools are being supplied with the necessities to do so.
I try my best to make lessons interactive and engaging with the use of technology but some items still need to be printed out such as final reports, essays, letters home to parents, progress reports etc. I am requesting 1 toner cartridge and 10 reams of paper for our classroom printer in order to accomplish these tasks.
Toner and Paper are vital necessities in any classroom.
Parents, students, and myself all depend on paper and toner for our class to run well. This can only happen with your aid. Please support my proposal and thank you in advance for supporting education.
