Please Help us Get More Healthy Snacks and Paper Goods.
My students need healthy snacks such as crackers, veggie straws and snack mixes to keep them alert throughout the day. They also need paper plates and cutlery.
Have you ever been so hungry that you had a hard time concentrating in class?
I teach 22 first graders in a Title 1 School located in a high poverty and high crime area in Pennsylvania.
All of my students receive free breakfast and free lunch. At the present time only a small percentage of my students are at the proper reading level. Many of my students come from homes where English is not spoken.
My Project
I would like to provide my students with healthy snacks. My students eat lunch at 11:20. By late afternoon, many of my first graders have a difficult time focusing and staying on task. I am hoping to serve them healthy snacks in order to satisfy their hunger and also keep them more alert. I would also like them to have a place to put their food. Lastly, I am hoping to get my students used to using forks, knives and spoons. In the lunchroom, they currently only get sporks. ( a combination of a spoon and fork)
Please help my students be the best that they can be.
I feel that if they are not hungry that they will be better focused on their studies. I want all of my students to become more proficient readers and mathematicians.
