My Students

Our school is in a suburban setting in the midwest. The children are bright and come to school eager to learn. They are very creative and enjoy making connections between their learning topics and things they see and experience outside of school.

One of the unique opportunities I can offer the children in their Music class is exploring global cultures.

The population in our school is large and reflective of just a little ethnic diversity. Having the opportunity to learn about other cultures and many different languages through Music class helps expand the children's global perspective.

My Project

The children at our school explore music through singing, playing instruments, and moving during each class. They approach cultures confidently through these experiences, and discover comfort through cultural similarities and differences in this way. World Music Drumming techniques allow me as the teacher to change cultures while maintaining aspects of familiarity, which is motivating for the children.

Drumming is a way to engage all students of every ability in Music class.

Through this project, more children will be able to play authentic instruments and engage in a deeper learning experience. I am excited to see where the children's learning will take them!
