My Students
Our high school is nestled at the base of the Sauratown mountains. With just under 900 students, we have students from various socioeconomic backgrounds. 28% of our students receive free lunch, and 9% of our students are a part of the reduced-price lunch program. Our school offers opportunities including CTE, STEM and AP.
The Media Center is the heart of the school, providing books, research, educational technology, digital citizenship, and general help. Our students love learning but do not always utilize our library because we have not received county funding for books in several years. Now we just need new fiction and nonfiction books to encourage students and staff to check out and utilize books.
My Project
Now that we have genrefied our collection, students will be able to browse titles as they would in a book store. By setting up our fiction collection by genre, students who may have been too intimidated to search for a book will now more likely come in if they can go directly to the genre section of the book or type of book they are looking for! These new books would put an emphasis on reading current and trending young adult books.
These materials will help our entire school community by igniting a desire to read in students and staff. New materials will not only make our Media Center more inviting to students and staff but also more desirable to students who may be reluctant readers!
