Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a bilingual class that is trying so hard to succeed in a limited and economically challenged environment. We do work our hardest and added to the challenges of becoming acclimated to a new country and culture, we have the added pressure of exams this year and could really use additional help!

Half of my students either came this year or the end of last year and are working hard to learn the language and the school system in general.

In addition to the added pressures of being culture shocked, separated from loved ones and not knowing the language, students now have to take not 1, 2 or 3 but 4 state exams this year. Many of my students often feel discouraged and like failures when they see how much pressure is put on them to pass these tests. While this is hard enough, we teachers often do not have enough or adequate resources to support them in feeling prepared for these tests. These books would really help us to cover the information on the Science test this year. We also would love to receive them as soon as possible so we can use them for practice!

My Project

We will use these books as a supplement to our science program which is very hands-on and actually more fun! While the students love this program it does not truly support all the facets of the exam and I do not want them to be surprised when they see the test. We can use these as study guides and extra practice. Did I mention that we would love to receive them as soon as possible...THANK YOU!

The major goal for this project is to ease some of the pressure off my students by trying to expose them to some of the material before they take the test.

I do not want to inundate them with the material but I do not want them to be shocked. We would love to receive them as soon as possible so they can start practicing! They love science too!
