My students are English language learners that either have just arrived or are still learning and developing their new language. We are in a high need school in a high need area and resources are short all around. I truly believe that the more a child reads, the more a child succeeds. If you learn and master this essential skill it is the key to achievement across the curriculum. I want to show my children and parents that there are higher rungs on the ladder to reach for and reading can get them there. I adopted a classroom that had a very limited library and while I have purchased many of my own books for them it is not enough. Some of these children have seen more experiences than they should have at such a young age and I need to provide them with not just the essentials for survival but give them the tools to better than they can even imagine. Reading success is the first step.
