This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic 4 year olds who love to learn! Our class is made up of 8 boys and 10 girls. Our small school is a kind and caring learning environment, nestled in a neighborhood just outside of downtown Los Angeles. Approximately 75% of our students are considered economically disadvantaged and qualify for free or reduced lunch. Our population is diverse with students coming from many ethnic backgrounds. We have received the honors of Title I High Achieving School and California Distinguished School.
My Project
My four and five year old students love playing outside in the sunshine! We are lucky enough to spend a couple hours outside on most days. We use balls, ring toss, a balance beam, and balls to develop gross motor and social skills. Water and sand play are both great activities to help social development, language acquisition, fine motor skills, and cognitive development.
We want to use our sand table and sand toys!
Water play is a class favorite during our daily outdoor time. By adding the sand table, we can double the number of kids who can choose and enjoy this area.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
