My Students

I've been teaching for 8 years now. The one thing I've learned from being a special education teacher is the importance of teaching the WHOLE child. Making sure they feel safe, happy, and excited to come to school.

My students come from all walks of life, but when they enter my classroom - we're a family.

I teach my students to be kind and always put in their best effort. I do my best every day to make learning come alive.

My Project

It became clear to me that many of my students NEEDED a standing desk. My students possess varying abilities, but they learn best when they are able to get up and move. Research has shown that when students are able to get up and move or stand, the blood in their body rushes to their brains which allows them to focus more. A colleague of mine has the Safco Alphabetter Standing Desks with Swinging Footbars in her classroom. My students have had the opportunity to utilize a standing desk in her room.

I watched with my own eyes as my students discovered what they needed to thrive and stay focused.

Students who need constant movement and stimulation were able to focus on their learning objectives. At that moment, I knew that I needed to do something to get these students desks to meet their individual needs.
