Help me give my students the opportunity to succeed in reading by funding me with the furniture and various learning modality materials, such as the area rug and multi-colored classroom chairs.
My students are very eager to learn, are creative, and love engaging in hands-on reading activities that not only cater to their senses but allows them to be actively engaged in their learning.
I service a rambunctious, yet an eager group of students who are determined to overcome the adversities of life.
Nestled in an impoverished neighborhood, my students have greatly suffered from adverse childhood experiences (ACES), which includes emotional and physical neglect. They are a great example of making lemonade out of lemons!
My Project
The furniture and materials that have been requested will help my students have an adequate and appropriate workspace that will cater to the various learning modalities. It will also provide them with the tools that they need to support the Michigan Ten Essential Instructional Practices for Early Literacy, which is a part of a mandated level of instructional care for all students, no matter the school district. If my students are not proficient readers by the end of third grade, they will be retained, per the state of Michigan: Third Grade Reading Law. So, funding for this project is extremely important for my second and third graders.
Motivation and student engagement is number one on this early literacy task force, and the furniture and materials requested will support and inspire these students to be engaged and motivated to read.
Having these early literacy tools will keep them engaged and provide them with opportunities that have never been afforded to them in the past. Currently, we do not have furniture, outside of their desks. This project, if funded, will assist me in bringing this classroom to life, as it pertains to creating a reading center and workspace to learn.
