Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

It is the second month of the school year, and my Necessities Closet is almost empty from the impact it has on decreasing student hunger and hygiene issues. Since school started, we have served over 370 students! The resources that my Necessities Closet provides helps students to focus on their learning without the distraction of an empty stomach or low self-esteem caused by body odor. The food resources requested on my list will help my students be successful in the classroom whether they missed a meal, in-transition, homeless, or live in food deserts.

The goals of my project are to give basic needs access to my students with food and toiletries, to close education gaps and create a compassionate equity foundation for my students, and to help them operate in self-awareness, advocacy, and service in social-emotional learning for student success.

My students are special because they are self-aware but sometimes need a self-esteem boost and to hold themselves accountable to advocating for themselves and other students. They are amazingly respectful and attentive especially when they are focused and their needs are fulfilled. In my opinion, they deserve to have an in-house resource like the Necessities Closet to help them achieve their learning goals and understand how to give back to their community when they have received a benefit.
