My school district is in a small rural community. My school has about 100 students. I teach middle school, grades 5-8. As teachers we try to find creative ways to inspire our students even when funds are low.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
My students come to school with an eagerness to learn and as a teacher I strive to make learning fun for them.
My Project
Our current Health curriculum is 15 years old. I recently received a free copy of the Scholastic magazine "Choices". My students LOVED IT! Believe it or not, a current event magazine like this is actually cheaper than a new Health curriculum! We need a class subscription to Choices to supplement our Health curriculum.
I liked the magazine because the topics in the Choices magazine were current and up-to-date.
My students liked the Choices magazine because the topics are things they can relate to and are actually interested in. I also LOVE that this magazine is from Scholastic. It is a very reputable company. Many schools and teachers use Scholastic for book orders and book fairs.
