Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a bilingual speech teacher who works with speech and language and hearing impaired students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Many of my students also are English language learners meaning English is not their native language. All students work hard to improve their speech and language skills and improve and understand the academic curriculum. They want to be better communicators and work diligently at improving their communication skills. My students are so dedicated to improving their communication skills.
My Project
My wonderful speech and language impaired k-5 students really enjoy reading the Scholastics News articles because they are of high interest, and it helps to elicit meaningful language and conversations. The articles focus on improving their expressive and receptive vocabulary skills, comprehension and decoding skills while igniting their interests in the topics presented. The language expansion activities help to improve their written responses, as well as to improve their inferential skills. Providing the students the materials via print and technology helps promote, encourage and provide carryover for home practice activities.
