Please Help! My 3rd Grade Scientists Need A Science Center.
My students need digital science center, complete with a microscope, slides, & other science tools that could enhance my science lessons and get them involved.
Last year my students participated in their 1st real science experiment. The students used different child safe chemicals to produce snow. I have never seen them so excited about learning. When they can do experiments and get hands-on practice...learning becomes FUN. I would like to do that again.
My students are third graders.
Our classroom theme will be "The Rainforest". Each week two students will be chosen as the King & Queen of the Jungle. 3rd graders are eager to please, and they are at a critical age. Research has shown that by the time a child reaches 4th grade they have a pretty good idea of the things they are interested in and if they don't feel like they are good at something they stop trying it after 3rd grade. If I can instill in them a LOVE of science, I know they would be much better off as adults. We are a public school in Louisiana, and we are fortunate just to have you consider us for this project. Thank you in advance and I hope to hear from you soon.
My Project
We take the i-Leap test in 3rd grade and while many of our students score mastery or exemplary in reading, language arts, & math, science has been an area that has caused concern amongst students, teachers, parents and administrators. New tech tools for visualizing & modeling, especially in the sciences offer students ways to experiment & observe phenomenon & to view results in graphic ways that aid in understanding. As an added benefit, with technology tools and a project-learning approach, students are more likely to stay engaged & on-task, reducing behavioral problems in the classroom. Technology-enabled project learning is the future of classroom instruction. Learning through projects while equipped with technology tools allows students to be intellectually challenged while providing them with a realistic snapshot of what the modern world looks like. Through this project, students will acquire & refine their analysis and problem-solving skills, thus becoming better citizens.
The impact of this project will last for years.
Donations to this project will enable me to equip a station (bookshelf) & surrounding desk/table with enough science tools to consider the area a science center. My students would enjoy 2 microscopes that are capable of being viewed on a SMART Interactive Board. The donation would also purchase microscopic slides that are both pre-made and do it yourself. Students would enjoy science, be eager to learn, & put these educational tools to use.
