Please Help Me Put a Book in Every Child's Hand!
My students need 28 copies of The War With Grandpa to improve their literacy skills.
My students love to read! If you ask any student their favorite part of the day, they would say, "The instructional read aloud!" I want to continue to nurture their love of reading every second I have them this year. My hope is to create life long readers.
My students are a diverse group of learners who come to school every day eager to learn and grow.
Our school has a free and reduced price lunch rate of over 57%, and for many students, English is their second language. Students in this class love school and learning!
As a classroom teacher, my goal is to use best practices to develop reading, writing, thinking, speaking, and listening skills in my students. A class set of The War with Grandpa would put a book in the hands of every student in my classroom and allow them access to rich literature that will deepen their thinking and foster important talk and dialog. If every student has access to their own book, they are better able to find text evidence to support their thinking and engage in determining the meaning of important vocabulary words. It will allow ALL students to be engaged and have ownership of their learning.
Having a class set of The War with Grandpa will enhance the learning experience for every student in my classroom.
Struggling readers will follow along in their copies while hearing appropriate fluency and expression and will be exposed to higher levels of thinking and dialog. This novel will provide the appropriate level of challenge for all learners and will, without a doubt, bring the love of reading back to the classroom.
