This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I'm Primary Promise Math Intervention teacher who wants to provide a warm and inspiring environment that high-light the importance of numeracy for all my students who step into the math lab. I work with students from kinder through 3rd grade that have demonstrated substantial learning challenges in the area of numeracy. However, they are always excited about learning.
By the time students arrive at my classroom, they can be two years behind their peers in math skills.
So, I know that unfortunately, being placed in my program has the potential to seem like a punishment to students. The inviting rug with numbers, a place for us to engage in math related stories, play math games with the bean bags, bean toss game, and hundred number boards will help support their learning journey and make my students feel safe and comfortable. I want to show my students that being in my intervention program is not a punishment, but an environment for growth. I envision endless meaningful use of the materials will be so helpful and enable me to create a rich environment that will naturally elicit both formal and informal language in a non-threatening setting.
Please help me create a warm and math inspiring place to be and that learning math is just as exciting as reading a story.
