This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my school often have many challenges to overcome. I believe that their perseverance is one of the factors that contribute to their such generous appreciation and compassion. I am from the same town that I teach in. I successfully finished my time in the US Army and moved back in order to teach these awesome students who inspire me every day!

Our school has been granted free lunch for all students due to the socio-economic status of many in our community; we are a Title One School.

I was recently blessed with a new amazing assortment of books for my classroom library. This was a great addition to my room and I thank my friends, family and Donors Choose for this blessing. Now I need a way to keep track of the books and bookshelves to store the books. Also, the extra technology will allow students to digitally record their work for our new digital portfolios that we will be creating.

My Project

I think every teacher has had the problem of books disappearing from their classroom libraries. I recently had the pleasure of having a new classroom library donated to my classroom. This was extremely important because many of my students enter my class 2-3 levels beneath their expected reading level. The books donated will help encourage my students to read and be excited about it.

I now need a bookshelf for my classroom library, a digital tool to ensure that the donated books are accounted for and technology to enable my students to share their work via digital portfolios.

I believe a key to ensuring student success is to give them the tools to do so. I want to enable them to feel confident in their reading and their work. An extensive and exciting classroom library will help them do that. A major way to ensure that to happen is to provide an organized library and also a way to share their work. This project will enable both goals.

I will be using the tablet as a digital check out system. The students will scan the books using the tablet and the Classroom Organizer Book Source app. The books will be checked out to their account and I will know where each book is at. Also, the tablet will allow my students to take pictures of their work and reading accomplishments. They will then be able to share these accomplishments using Class Dojo!
