Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are my heroes! My students are the most inspiring people I have ever met! My students demonstrate bravery as they fight cancer and other life threatening medical conditions.

I work with students in grades K-12 that have serious medical conditions.

Some students have life threatening conditions such as cancer. Other students are on the transplant list waiting for an organ transplant. A few students have been hit by a car or were in a car accident. Most of the students experience pain on a daily basis. All of my students are very brave and a pleasure to work with. In addition to their serious medical problems, all of my students reside in high poverty areas. Most of my students come from single parent families. The families are in need and spend a majority of their time taking their children to medical appointments and to the hospital.

My Project

With these supplies the students will be able to integrate technology and art into their daily language arts and math lessons. Even when they are ill and receiving medical treatment, the students still attend school. Having an assortment of classroom supplies will make it easier to complete classwork. Students enjoy creating technology based projects, and we need technology related supplies to create these projects. Since my students are under a great deal of stress and most of the students have chronic pain due to a serious medical condition, integrating technology and art into our academic lessons is necessary. The students also need reading material to take with them to their medical appointments. Scholastic News is perfect for this. They love reading Scholastic News! It would be very helpful for students to have their own copy of Scholastic News that they could read in class and they could also take to their medical appointments.

Having a variety of supplies for technology, art, reading, writing, math, science and social studies will help to brighten a sick child's day!

The families love to see the art, math and writing projects that we create in our class. We print a copy of the stories. The students write and illustrate the copies and give it to the families. They cherish the precious memories! In addition, providing the students with their own copy of Scholastic News gives them an opportunity to own their reading materials.
