Help me give my students the opportunities to use technology in the classroom again. With Covid 19 all of our devices were sent home . We have no devices to use for intervention and other great online opportunities.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Brave, Kind, compassionate and motivated are four words to describe my students. This is their first year ever being in school and they are facing hardships all around everyday, but seeing their smiles you would not know.
I teach the most compassionate students I have taught in 22 years of teaching.
The students are facing challenges every day with their environment, Covid, the economy and more. They live in a very low income area. Many of the parents stayed home last year and lost income. So this year financially is harder than ever. The students are given 3 full meals a day and sent food for the weekend. The students wear masks all day ( Inside and out ) and are tested weekly for Covid. Despite all these challenges they come to school each day so excited to learn, so excited to share and also a place to feel safe.
To give a simple example of my students.. We had Santa Zoom our class this year. These children have very little. However, when Santa asked them what they wanted , they asked for things for their siblings or parents. These are 5 and 6 year olds
My Project
COVID-19 has affected us all. In February 2020 our school became 1 to 1 technology. It was so exciting . As the kinders were the last to get tech we celebrated. Flash forward one month later and all the technology was sent home with quarantine. Most of our school stayed online the whole year 2020-2021 and they used those devices. Many of our devices came back broken and have not been replaced. The devices were sent home again in August to prevent homework from going back and forth.
We have great intervention programs the children can do online, however we do not have devices in the classrooms since Covid 19.
My students may be the youngest but they need some tablets to get them online and doing the reading and math programs. I have 2 different grades and the Chromebooks are not easy for the TK to use on their own. The tablets would be perfect for independence while I am working with another group.
I spent this last year making sure my students and the whole school had winter clothing, basic school supplies and blankets. Now this is the one thing we really need for in the classroom.
