My Project

Do you remember in school having a class job like turning on the room light or passing out papers? Do you remember getting paid for doing that job? My students will get an idea of how money is exchanged for goods and services through a classroom store. At the end of each month, the children will get pay for their services with play money to be used to buy real goods like novelty toys and yummy snacks such as cookies and chips.

Beside using math to calculate the cost of goods, they will also learn to save money and master other financial literacy skills from Civic Duties units in Social Studies that take place throughout the year.

Our discussions about money will give us an initial understanding of the students' prior knowledge of money, how it is made, and what it is used for. We then will lead a discussion about exchanging class services for the food goods in the class store. I hope you can help us achieve the financial literacy goals.
