As fifth graders, our students are hard workers and have a love of reading. They are not only trying to master the 5th grade standards, but also preparing themselves for life in Middle School.
Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and are diverse learners.
Our students enjoy experiencing new adventures through the characters they read about and are great peers.
I love my students because they come in to fifth grade excited to learn and I love seeing their faces light up when we are reading a story together that they absolutely love.
The novels Tiger Rising and Number the Stars are incredible novels that reach and touch all students. These will serve as a way to enrich my students' vocabulary, knowledge, and sensitivity. These novels will be used in small group guided reading and literature circles, where students will improve their comprehension skills, as well as learn figurative language, symbolism, and compassion.
Both Tiger Rising and Number the Stars are inspirational and beautiful books that my students will remember always.
The standards are so easily taught when students do not want to put the book down. This would be the only way I could get a class set of these books for our classroom.
