This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“Please don’t step on me!” It’s a phrase that I can almost hear the binders screaming as they lay on the floor next to my student’s desks.
I teach 4th grade at a Title 1 school, where most of the students receive free or reduced lunches.
Unfortunately, the students have so many mandated books they need to keep in their desks, that they run out of room for their organizational materials (binder and planner).
My Project
This is a major problem, as it starts to interfere with the safety and wellness of those who step foot inside our classroom. Since there is not room inside the desks, the students tend to lean their binders next to the desk legs, but it is only a matter of time before the binders slide down and are flat on the floor. Many students, as well as myself, have tripped or stepped on binders, causing papers to scatter and crinkle across the floor. Therefore, we are requesting 15 Chair Pockets to help organize their materials and keep the floor free from clutter.
I try so hard to teach the kids organization to prepare them for middle school and life in general, but it is extremely difficult when there are 30 plus, almost adult sized bodies, in the room, and no space for their binders and planners.
This is where the chair pockets would come in and help save us from this chaos. The pockets would slide neatly over every child’s chair and would have enough room to carry the student’s binders and planners, plus an extra pocket for pencils and erasers.
This would eliminate wrinkled assignments, destroyed binders, and a teacher’s anguish from tripping yet again.
Please help make our classroom safe to walk through.
Thank you in advance for your support.
