I am currently a Middle School history teacher. I teach six 6th grade classes, which consists of ESL, Special Education, General Ed and Honor students.
My students have to overcome many language barriers, learn the English language and required school concepts with little or no help from their parents.
Their parents are unable to help them in the educational area due to lack of knowledge and understanding of the English language, as well as knowledge of these concepts. My students work hard and often support their mothers and fathers by running household errands and watching younger siblings. Unfortunately, another aspect my students share is that the majority (+65%) of the families in my school are struggling financially.
My Project
As part of the Common Core curriculum, students are required to understand many concepts related to world events and history. I try my best to make lessons interactive and engaging with as many hands-on activities as possible. We are lacking the necessary technology components to meet the demands of the Common Core requirements.
I am requesting 33 HP Chromebook laptops and a storage/charging cart.
For those who have used computers in the classroom, the benefits are unquestionable. More teachers are finding the connection with computers one that enhances and benefits students’ learning and expands knowledge. I do not want my students to continue on without these innovative tools. I would love to use these computers with special needs students as tools to help overcome communication issues. If successful we would be able to use the technology to help share assignments, engage in various activities, provide real-time communication experiences with others regardless the distance, enhance or expand lessons and increase knowledge.
Technology skills are highly valued in this computer driven society.
Please support and provide these 33 HP Chromebook laptops for my current and future, wonderful, determined, and young students that need a little financial help.
