Mrs. Manswell from Bronx NY is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 10 copies of "Bullying in Schools," by Townsend Press, and two simple touch Nooks with protective covers to help them continue on the road to becoming good citizens.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Robert Kiyosaki said, "A lot of people are afraid to tell the truth, to say no. That's where toughness comes into play. Toughness is not being a bully. It's being able to speak out against bullying." With the Townsend Press books, paint and camera, my students could make it clear, STOP THE BULLYING.
My students go to school in one of the toughest areas in NYC.
School is suppose to be a safe haven, but lately, bullying seems to be taking over. We as adults, administrators, teachers and etc. are doing all we can to create a safe environment. But, sometimes bullying takes place in areas out of our sight. Now it is time for the students to take charge and stand up to bullying. My students need to have literature that exposes them to the topic of bullying to help them learn how and what to do to stop and prevent bullying. With the book, "Bullying in Schools", my students will start building self-esteem.
By using the book "Bullying in Schools" by Townsend Press, my students will explore and analyze their behaviors in regards to bullying and ways to deal effectively with bullying in the future. We will read true stories on bullying written by students. They will share their feelings on bullying through the eyes of the authors. This will give them a chance to speak candidly about bullying without revealing any personal or embarrassing situation that they might have faced. They will create anti-bullying t-shirts to help the school become aware of bullying. The students will write about the different experiences they had learning about bullying and the creation of t-shirts. Lastly, they would create their own book and upload it to the Nook e-reader so that they could confidentially share their writings with each other. This will also satisfy the Common Core State Standards in writing and technology.
My students need an awareness on bullying and the negative effects that go along with this topic.
This project will encourage my students to be wonderful classroom citizens. We will refer to our book creations throughout the year for ways to deal with the bullying issue. "Bullying in Schools" by Townsend Press and the Nooks Readers will help the students by giving them a way to understand and combat bullying.
