My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things organized and provide my students with creative and meaningful books

We are the "forgotten school" and do not get the extra services that we desperately need.

Recently our school was referenced in the Seattle Times as having the most diverse student population in the entire state of WA. Over 76% of our students receive free/reduced lunch. The kids come into school needing as many extra resources as possible. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth, and find the learning style that works for them. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly make their experience during the school day positive and rewarding. I am hopeful to inspire these children to reach for the stars and hope to see them prepare to continue on a path of academic success!

My Project

My students need an organized leveled library because they want to read exciting new books at their level. After a mini-lesson with the class, they will pick a book at their level and practice the new learned reading strategy. My new portable is quite small so having them in a tidy and labeled library will attract students and make them better readers and writers in second grade.

For my struggling readers and ELL the books and earphones will make a difference by making them more engaged and respectful readers.

Also, my new Chromebook will help me keep track of their reading and find new innovative apps, and keep their grades while working at school or home. My students are amazing and deserve these supplies to enhance their academic lives.
