My Project
Our students with special needs have been given the unique opportunity to participate in a weekly swim program at the Coney Island YMCA. This is a great space for our students to be free of the confines of a wheelchair, to enjoy the silence and wonder of underwater exploration, and to get some wonderful exercise at the same time.
Your generosity will help keep them safe and maximize their time experiencing joy in the water.
At this time, all students who attend our program are non-ambulatory, needing wheelchairs to move. We need your help to obtain some necessary equipment, which include:
1. A waterproof massage table for changing in and out of their swimwear.
2. A privacy screen for changing.
3. Neck floats to allow some of our students to safely keep their head above water without assistance as they move their limbs underwater.
4. Specialized swim towels which fully absorb water from our students' bodies and their wheelchairs.
The above equipment will help diminish our transition time in and out of the water, while keeping our students safe. Would you please help us?
