Please Bring Back Visual Arts for TK and Kindergarten
My students need art materials such as pipe cleaners, construction paper, pastels, construction paper crayons, glue, and more to enhance their creativity.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year our Visual Arts program was cut from our school. This class gave students a special opportunity to learn how to be creative and imaginative, and it introduced the children to different materials and skills. Many teachers feel they do not have time to do art or to get messy. I don't agree.
My students will be young, excited Transitional Kinder and Kindergarteners.
My students will be made up of 24 to 30 four-, five- and six-year-olds. For most of the children, this will their first experience in school. TK and Kindergarten now is a full day program, all academic and very successful. The children will soon be readers, writers, and whatever their future holds. The children I have face a lot of outside challenges. They are in an area that is very financially challenged.
The school is all on free breakfast and free lunch and is a Title I school. Most of my students enter without basic school supplies (even as basic as a box of crayons), so it has been up to me to provide the school supplies to help the children succeed. Our school and district have been facing huge budget issues. Even with all these budget challenges, I do not want my students to miss out on great learning and art opportunities.
My Project
If we need test prep materials, they are available. Our school spent $50,000 for computers for a one week District Test/State Test. However, we can't get art materials for the lower grades as we have no money. White glue is rationed. Thanks to DonorsChoose.org I was able to use a few of the craft/art materials with my students last year, and they are very enjoyable. Each art project was different, unique, and fun. The children were so proud of their artworks, and they were age appropriate.
I am hoping this year to restock the art material and offer more crafts to the children. I am asking for a variety of types of paint, paper, craft materials, and more, so I can teach my little students how to be imaginative and creative. I can relate art to our science and ESL topics along with language arts and math. These materials will help create lifelong memories. I am asking for help with art materials for my Transitional Kindergarten and Straight Kindergarten class.
My students are young and many are quite shy.
If the child can't verbally express themselves, I would like them to be able to express their feelings, creativity, and more through the arts. I would like to get construction crayons, craft kits, paint, construction paper, pastels, pipe cleaners, and more art supplies. These are needed to allow my students to create while learning. Parents need art to hang on their refrigerators, and four and five year olds need a chance to create while learning.
