My students need a set of 3 way table top easels, a doll crib, Shopping baskets and more to help develop and enhance their oral language skills through play.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are my children. My classroom consists of 25 children from all different backgrounds. I have a large percent of beginner English Language Learners. The rest of my class consists of students with special needs and general education students.
More importantly my students are funny, energetic, creative, frustrated, shy, silly, curious, but most of all resilient.
All the diversity makes for a great teaching experience, but it also makes it difficult to meet the various needs of the students in my classroom.
Every morning I start fresh and do my best to reach the needs, whatever they may be, of each child. My school has a very large population of low, socio-economic students. Many of the children live in shelters and live in large multi -generational households. It would be awesome to give all these children the opportunity to meet their optimal potential.
My Project
As an early childhood educator, I am an advocate for children to have daily free playtime. The set of 3 way easels will add to our play centers. I plan to incorporate a paint center. I want the children to have the experience of painting, mixing, colors, and even making a mess in a safe environment where messes are welcomed. Just like math or science the arts are just as important as a learning tool.
Children learn through play.
Playing is also universal. In a classroom with such diverse needs and various likes and dislikes, I need to have many different options from which the children can choose. Children love to build, create, imitate, and learn.
These materials will provide this class with many chances to engage in conversation with one another. These materials, like the doll crib, will provide playtime experiences they may not ever have other than in my classroom.
Learning through playtime helps children in all aspects of their social, personal, and academic lives. Being able to provide clean, safe, and stimulating toys, games, puzzles, and play materials is essential for a successful classroom of healthy and happy students.
