This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all children with Autism. This year I currently only have kindergartners. They are ages five and six.
Most of my students are non-verbal with limited communication skills!
They need different learning modalities and activities to understand their environment.
My Project
My students are all Kindergartners with Autism. All of my students were in a pre-kindergarten setting last year and there they began to learn to play. They still need to learn better play skills. Children with Autism have difficulty learning how to play with their friends.
Social leisure is an important part of our school day.
It gives our students a time to learn how to socialize in a structured setting. They are taught how to socialize with their peers. They need to understand the appropriate way to initiate, socialize, and play.
The biggest problem we have is that we do not have any dolls or dolls toys in our social leisure area. We need a set of dolls, doll clothes and blankets and a stroller to complete our social leisure area.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
