Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Oral reading fluency is the best predictor of future reading success for elementary school students. Unfortunately, many of the materials provided are so boring that the students lose interest quickly. We need exciting new materials that will encourage a love of reading and increase reading fluency.

I am the Intervention Teacher at a fantastic urban elementary school.

Our students are from working class families and receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Most of our students are English Language Learners as well. I work specifically with students who are struggling readers. Most of them read at least two grade levels below their peers. These students are hard working and eager to learn.

My Project

Although my students are significantly behind their peers, they should not be "tortured" with boring reading materials that make them feel incapable. The materials I am asking for will make practicing reading fun! The scripts are highlighted so each student can find their part easily. The plays also cover different genres so I can teach the standards while helping my students become better readers. I have used Reader's Theater before and it was a huge success both with the students and in terms of fluency gains.

These resources will be a tremendous help for our struggling readers.

They will have fun as they work together to act out these plays. I thank you in advance for helping to make Intervention more exciting for my struggling readers.
