Every day, students rush into my art classroom excited to find out what we are going to make today. We could be working on something as simple as a pencil drawing, or as complex as a 3D design to print on our classroom Makerbot. My students are always ready to let their creativity shine!
My students and my school are passionate about the arts and technology.
I teach about 150 art students each semester. I also sponsor an after school Young Maker's Club. I work with a creative bunch of artists who love experimenting with technology. Some of our most exciting moments in class occur when we combine traditional art techniques with advanced technology. My students love to tinker and create new things. We are Makers!
My Project
As a teacher, I am dedicated to bringing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math) concepts into my classroom. I have requested materials to expand my classroom Makerspace. A Makerspace is an open-ended learning environment that encourages students to tinker and think creatively while developing STEAM skills. A MaKey MaKey is a device that can turn literally anything into a keyboard. My students will use the Play-Doh to create their own inventive video game controllers, computer mice, and even musical instruments. The options are truly endless when you combine the MaKey MaKey with Play-Doh! I can't wait to see what my students make!
Your donations will help to inspire a new generation of 21st century thinkers.
The Play-Doh and MaKey MaKey will allow my students the opportunity to delve deeper into Maker culture and further develop essential STEAM skills like collaboration and innovation. And most importantly, we'll have a lot of fun while doing it!
