Playing to Reintroduce Fun during COVID

My Students

My students represent a variety of cultures and ethnic backgrounds. The area contains students from transitional housing or low-income areas making it difficult for their families to provide what they need. Despite these trials, my students come to school with a positive attitude and a drive to learn.

As a special education teacher, it's especially important for me to provide these students with a learning environment that is comfortable and stable.

I want to create a positive and conducive learning space for these students. I also want to hold them to a higher standard. My students are coming from a situation and environment in which many will look down on them because of it. Every student is capable of learning and so much more. They just need someone to believe in them and know that we aren't going anywhere. I look forward to serving these students daily.

My Project

My students don't have access to a variety of physical education equipment. Due to the nature of the area that we work in, the equipment we have is rather old and is missing pieces. If my students were able to use different equipment, they would be able to enjoy a variety of activities, while relieving the stress of being in a socially distanced environment.

This new recess equipment will also help my student's gross motor skills as they maneuver around a basketball, throw a frisbee, or kick a ball.

Physical education is a big part of a child's social-emotional learning as it increases interactions among peers, and provides opportunities to collaborate with age-appropriate compromises
