Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Kindergarten classroom will soon be full of unique and diverse learners. Young children are naturally curious and full of questions. I look forward to providing many hands-on and play-based activities to engage students in the fascinating world around them. It is my goal to nurture and encourage a love of learning in each of my students that will last a lifetime.
The students at my Title I school come from a variety of backgrounds.
I seek to treat each student with honor and respect as I get to know them personally and help each of them overcome the challenges they face in life.
My Project
This project will provide a variety of engaging play-based and hands-on materials for my students' use. Felt storyboards, puppets, and dolls will allow students to engage in story-building activities that will help them develop English Language skills as well as social skills. Magnetic numbers, pattern blocks, dice and Geostix will give students the opportunity to build conceptual understanding of math topics. Playing with sensory dough and stringing beads will increase students' fine motor skills which will support efficient pencil grip. And, who can resist a STEM activity using building bricks?!
Play is the work of childhood.
This sentiment has been repeated by child development experts Jean Piaget, Maria Montessori, and Fred Rogers. This project may look like it is "only" fun and games. But, experts tell us that times of play are crucial. Psychologist, Penelope Leach, has said "For a small child there is no division between playing and learning; between the things he or she does 'just for fun' and things that are 'educational.'" Your donation to this project will go directly toward play-based and hands-on materials that will help children learn and grow.
