My Project
Most of my students come from low income families and do not have access to books or toys that foster development. This project will help give my preschool special education students access to sensory toys, books, and fine motor activities their pre-academic skills, fine motor skills, communication skills, and literacy skills!
The Bear Books have repetitive phrases throughout them to encourage participation in shared reading and increase their expressive language and listening comprehension skills.
The Melissa and Doug Poke-a-Dot books will increase students numeracy awareness and ability to count and identify numbers. The David books teach students appropriate behaviors. The sensory bins, jewelry making kit, and busy books will increase my students fine motor and adaptive skills as well as increasing their ability to participate in imaginative play which is how young children learn. The alphabet acorn activity set and leapfrog ABC backpack will help improve students pre-literacy skills. The carpet, cabinet, and storage bins will allow me to create a calm and organized space while decreasing sensory overload by having a place to store our classroom toys and materials.
