This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What better way to improve reading comprehension skills than by playing games? All 3rd graders in Florida must pass the Reading Comprehension portion of the FCAT to be promoted to 4th grade. Playing games in our class can help the students do just that!
My third grade students are a highly-active group of kids from a low-income, minority population, some of which have recently arrived from Cuba and speak very little English.
Although my class is very motivated to read, many lack the specific skills needed to truly comprehend what they are reading.
My Project
Each day we sit in small groups to practice reading and learn different ways to understand what we read. These children come from different backgrounds and each have different experiences with reading. No two children are exactly alike, so no two children will learn the same. With these reading comprehension games and activities, children will be able to take what they have learned in our small groups and apply them either on their own or with a group of friends in a fun and exciting way.
Using these games and activities, the students will be able to further develop their reading comprehension skills in order to do well and pass the state mandated FCAT and be promoted to the 4th grade.
