Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Let kids play for the health of it is what I would like to see this coming school year.
I teach 100 fifth graders throughout the day. Most are economically disadvantaged. Most live in sub-standard housing too.
Many of the students are a bit on the heavy side. Many are overweight and lack physical activity. During recess some student walk the track, but the majority of them sit back and look around or get into trouble. I believe this is due to the fact that we do not have recess equipment.
With recess equipment such as soccer balls, jump ropes, hula hoops, and balls, I feel that students will engage in sustained physical activities. During recess, students will be encouraged to use the equipment for a determined amount of time and then gradually increased the time. The sustained physical activity will help them maintain a healthier body and maybe even lose some pounds or at least tone up a bit. The recess equipment will provide the opportunity for them to get up and play. With a little encouragement from friends, physical activity should increase.
Do you like to see children play? Do you enjoy seeing healthy and fit children? Please consider this recess equipment. Your kind generosity will help provide the opportunity for my fifth grade students to get up and play for the health of it. It is important to be healthy and fit and you can be part of it.
