This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are amazing energetic, enthusiastic preschoolers. They love hands-on activities, working together, and interacting with each other. Playing in our block center is one of their favorite activities. Our block center is not just an intentional play destination but a cooperative and collaborative learning space where children learn about math, problem solving and science. All that while developing their imagination, self-expression and creativity. It is also one of the learning centers where they may experience great social emotional and language development.

My project will provide my PreK students with a variety of developmentally appropriate educational materials in the block center to promote more hands-on activities, more meaningful interactions and more intentional play.

Intentional play is when children learn how to make decisions, interact with peers and develop theories about the world around them in an intentional set up environment. Unfortunately, nowadays, most children spend too much time on activities like the internet, social networks, and video games, and not learning through play and peer interaction. My project will make our block center more intentionally designed to facilitate more teachable moments and more meaningful interactions. It will also help my PreK students get more socially engaged while developing several important skills necessary for their proper cognitive, social and emotional development. My class participates in centers for 50-60 minutes every day as part of our preschool curriculum. My goal with this project is to provide my students with more focused and meaningful opportunities for intentional play plus more learning moments while playing at the block center. My project is asking for materials and resources like cardboard blocks, home play block builders, hollow blocks, and a rectangular carpet for them to play and learn.
