This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school has a large and enthusiastic student body of students who are experiencing music for the first time in school.

Our students are a diverse bunch with many of the kids coming from economically challenged households and are overcoming life obstacles beyond the classroom.

About 93% of our students qualify for free hot lunch. There are many English Language Learners, some of whom who come as far as Mexico and Bangladesh. They are creative and happy, and are ecstatic about having music as part of their core curriculum.

This is their first year of having a full music program ever since the previous music teacher retired prematurely, and are looking to bring more high quality experiences and materials to these wonderful students. In addition, this is the first year that the 6th grade classes are experiencing a full heterogeneous band class, and students are slowly being introduced to Little Kids Rock curriculum within grades 4 and below.

They appreciate every new thing they learn.

My Project

These Snark Clip-On Tuners will allow students the ability to visually see how in tune or out of tune their instrument is. For guitar, bass, ukulele and violin players, this will allow them to tune their strings to the correct pitches and make sure they are playing in the same tuning. This will also allow students who play instruments such as clarinet, flute, sax, trumpet, and trombone to check if every note is in tune on their instrument.

Tuning the instruments will allow students to hear music that sounds harmoniously rich.

Plus, the Snark Tuners themselves will allow students a visual method of seeing if the young musicians are in tune or not.
