Do you remember how much fun you had as a child spinning a jump rope with friends or scoring a goal in soccer? My students have not had access to wonderful playground equipment to strengthen their bodies and have fun with their friends on the playground.
My students are a diverse bunch of children from varying backgrounds.
They are eager to learn at school, but like all kids, LOVE recess! We need more activities and equipment on the playground to spark their imagination. We have a beautiful grass area with a great big shady tree, and this would be a great place for a soccer goal. We also have a large cement area where there is open space for basketball and other games.
My Project
The new basketball hoop will allow the students in my class, as well as the other kindergarten students, to practice hand eye coordination on the playground while they dribble and shoot the ball. The students will also get the chance to get out much needed energy by using the jump ropes and hula hoops. Students who exercise with appropriate activities at recess are ready to come back into the classroom and work hard at the core curriculum subjects like literacy, math, social studies, and science.
