This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students come from low-income families and many of them come from immigrant parents whose first language is other than English. Many also live in a high-risk community. Our school vision is to help our students achieve their American dream by accelerating their academic achievement.

My personal goal as a teacher is to provide my students with the best learning and nurturing environment.

It would be great to have these playground activities funded so that I can give my students the opportunity to practice their gross motor skills while having fun outdoors. At the moment we have 50 kindergarteners and only 4 tricycles, 3 balls, and 2 hoops. Students wait daily in very long lines to have a turn riding a bike or playing with hoops and balls and almost every day many of them do not get a turn. Having this caterpillar, trike, and games would be incredibly helpful.

As research shows, active play is the key to physical, mental, intellectual and social well being of children, and for many of them school play time is the most active part of their day.

For kindergarten students school playgrounds play a critical role in their daily life by fulfilling their interest, their learning needs, and by teaching them critical social skills.
