My Project
Hello!
I found an old bucket of playdough in an out-of-use classroom and was told it was OK for me to take.
I put it on a shelf in my room without much thought. I wasn't sure what I could use it for and thought I would probably throw it away. Well, to my absolute surprise, nearly every single student noticed it right away and asked if we could use it!
At first I had no idea what they were talking about, until I followed their gaze and their pointing fingers to see the playdough on the shelf. So, I got it out and it was a wild success! Every student has loved it and begged (yes begged!) to use it nearly every class session.
I have been astonished by how enjoyable this has been for the children, who have made exceptionally creative works of art and engaged in excellent pretend play. I even had some students, who unfortunately witnessed an act of violence by a child toward me last month, use it completely independently in a theraputic manner, acting out with the dough what happened, and what they wish they could have done to help me.
I think that there is a great deal of benefit to tactile work and incorporating it into learning makes the process of "learning" seem easy and fun!
So, I have selected playdough in various colors along with tools, desk mats, and some cute ice cream counting aids (I have many students who cannot count in sequence and I thought that this tactile, hands-on support may help).
Thank you for taking your time and effort to read this and for considering helping. I promise you that these items will be loved by all and will be kept for years and years!
