My Project

We have a jammed packed day in our kindergarten classroom, but I always make time for free choice centers. Play is just as important as academics. Children are not made to sit still for long periods of time, so free choice play centers are cruical for young kids development. In the real world children have very little control over their lives. In free choice play, young students control the narratives and the outcomes, which builds self confidence. Free choice play is greatly benefical for every student because it encourages creativity, conflict resolution, encourages cooperation and teaches empathy. It also helps students learn real life skills, problem solving skills, and social skills that can serve them throughout their life. A huge benefit for dramatic play centers is that they help to develop literacy skills which include speaking, listening, and extending vocabulary all while promoting fun! My goal is to create a variety of dramatic play centers to encourage purposeful learning through play. By donating to our project you will be helping my students bring thier stories to life through play. My young, impressionable students will develop a deeper understanding of character, setting, and languge. By donating to our project, you will help my students be more focused during our normal math and literacy block because they were able to move and learn through play. Many of my students come from unstable backgrounds, low income families, or uncertainty about their day. By providing purposeful play in my classroom I will be giving my students the space and the environment to experiment with situations and outcomes to build thier decision making skills and provide long term social and emotinal development. Purposeful play will encourage independence by letting the students dive deeper into their own internal world and encourge imaginative play. Play is learning!!
