My Project
The students I work with are full of curiosity and kindness, but many face challenges expressing their feelings and navigating social situations. Our school counseling program supports students in kindergarten through 5th grade that have autism, intellectual disabilities, speech and language impairments, or ADHD. They come from diverse backgrounds and benefit from hands-on, playful learning opportunities to develop their social and emotion regulation skills.
By incorporating specially selected games and pretend play materials into our counseling sessions, we create engaging and interactive opportunities for students to learn and practice important life skills in a way that feels fun and natural.
With the new games, our students will practice turn taking, decision making, and frustration tolerance. The toy food sets will be used for pretend play scenarios, helping students to express their emotions, share, role-play social situations, and engage in problem-solving strategies. These tools will have a lasting impact, supporting students as they improve their peer relationships and develop confidence, coping skills, and resilience.
