Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a 3K teacher at a Title I school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Our students love to learn through hands-on activities and authentic discussions.
Our school is truly a barrier free school, serving all students who come through our doors.
Helping students achieve their dreams is our goal, providing them with the tools that will get them there! Our students are in need of essential resources and materials that will benefit them during instruction.
My Project
Fine motor skills are those that require the ability to use and coordinate small muscle groups and are important for writing, shoe-tying, buttoning, and zipping, among other things.
Sensory play often involves using and building fine motor skills by exploring things using pinching, pouring, and lacing movements.
Sensory play has an important role in development. While children are busy rolling, poking and squishing dough, they are building strength in the little muscles in their fingers and hands. These same muscles are used for later skills such as cutting and holding a pencil with a pincer grasp.
Children are also learning hand-eye coordination as they use their hands to shape play dough. Each different way children shape play dough—pushing, pulling, squashing, squeezing, rolling, chopping, cutting—builds fine motor development in a different way.
