Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a school that has English Learners, some students with different needs that require more individualized attention, and students with all degrees of skill levels. They love learning and enjoy hands-on learning experiences!
Most of our students enter first grade as six year olds and leave as seven year olds.
They all have a wonderful energy that I love seeing in action. As a grade level, we do many activities that reach of all of our young learners and help to reinforce our classroom lessons!
My Project
These new math games and tools will be used by a wonderful group of first graders. Our grade level uses a math lab cart that we rotate weekly into to five different classrooms and reaches one hundred and forty, different students and a wide variety of different types of learners! We use games to help reinforce and strengthen our students' math skills, using fun and engaging math games! Students work in small groups with support from teachers and some wonderful parent volunteers. We love adding new items to our cart to keep each rotation fresh and fun. As students play, they support each other while building their own math skills. Using a math book and teaching typical lessons is great, but reinforcing that information with engaging games is so much more enriching and reaches a wide range of learners!
