My Students

My 20 energetic Kindergarten and first graders are full of life and ready for the adventure of learning. They attend an open optional school for kindergarten through 6th grade. They love acting out stories, asking questions and coming up with answers and being part of the learning process. They learn through experience. Some of them experience learning and sensory difficulties. Students master common core strands though hands-on meaningful learning activities. Learners benefit from field trips, community experts, student teachers, parents and grandparents.

My Project

Children come alive when an instrument is put in their hands. Their interest in literacy can be sparked in a whole new way. They are eager to tap out the syllables in words or slowly sound out each letter in a word when putting a musical note to each letter or listen very carefully to hear certain sounds or sing songs.

Children are able to make a story come alive when they perform certain musical sounds when hearing selected phrases such as "Run, run, as fast as you can.

You can't catch me, I’m the Gingerbread Man." from the fairy tale book Gingerbread Man.
