My Students
I teach 18 kindergarten age students who love school! Most of my students come from low to middle-income homes, and with cuts to funding, there is no money in our budgets for anything outside of basic supplies. I strive to give them the loving supportive environment that they deserve while they are in my care so they can have the best chance at growing, learning, loving, and just being a kid with no worries!
Kindergarten is such an important developmental period in children's lives, and developmentally appropriate practices of movement, play, and choice are often being swept under the rug with the increasing academic demands being placed on our students.
However, research actually supports that using these practices increases student learning, growth, and achievement! Therefore, it is important to me to give my ALL to my Kindergarteners growing minds, no matter where they come from or how different they are; a place where they have the best chance at flourishing and developing into great learners and people!
My Project
Play in Kindergarten is something that I know is crucial in the development of young children. While others are forced to take this time out of their classrooms and fill it with academics, it is my goal to keep play in our daily schedule.
Many don't understand that when children play they are developing very important social, emotional, and physical skills.
These items are for all of our kindergarten classrooms to share. This project will impact the learning of 80 children.
I am requesting a variety community helper costumes so multiple children can pretend to be grown ups and act out jobs they may wish to have when they grow up. The children can set up the market with food and act out selling and shopping. They can also use the food in the kitchen along with the small appliances to play house or add a cash register and pretend restaurant writing box to play restaurant.
This center is a classroom favorite and it has been loved very much over the years. These items are to replace some of the favorites and also to enhance this center and offer more options to all of our kindergarten
