Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My first-graders earn 10 to 20 minutes of dramatic playtime at the end of the day as a reward for completing their work and making good choices throughout the day. This time allows them to engage in imaginative play with their friends, fostering creativity, social skills, and a sense of accomplishment for their hard work. Providing items like realistic play food, dishes, and play pots and pans naturally enhances these skills.

My students bring a unique blend of curiosity, energy, and creativity to the classroom.

At this age, they are developing important social and emotional skills, and dramatic play offers them the opportunity to practice and refine those abilities in a fun, supportive environment. Many of my students may not have access to such play experiences at home, so providing this opportunity in the classroom helps bridge that gap and ensures they are exposed to valuable learning opportunities.

Additionally, the ability for my students to earn playtime by completing work and making good choices highlights their growing sense of responsibility and understanding of cause and effect. This not only motivates them but also makes them more invested in their learning and behavior. Their enthusiasm for dramatic play reflects their natural desire to connect, explore, and make sense of the world around them.
