Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We have many amazing students with great big hearts and top attendance rates! You'll understand why when you walk into our school and immediately are welcomed. Each teacher has a bulletin board outside their room with words of hope and encouragement.

You'll see well behaved kids with bright smiles, who might only run out of line to give a quick hug.

In spite of the community's median income of $33,000 and spending on food and other basic needs being 75% that of an average family they arrive to school eager to learn. Due to poverty and hardships many of our students come to school less than prepared. Were it not for the generosity of others, our students would not have the opportunity to enjoy their full potential.

My Project

Home life never leaves kids, so when they come to school they bring with them every message about themselves. Some are helpful and some not. We often see it reflected in their schoolwork, relationships, behavior, and at times, their frustration.

A dollhouse will help them to work through and process their experiences with each other, discovering potential and qualities as a new narrative sets the stage for language, creative thought, problem solving, testing boundaries and relationships.

Additionally, studies show that children living in poverty have fewer toys available to them, therefore fewer opportunities to build necessary skills for academic success.
