This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school serves 330 students residing in the heart downtown Sparks, NV. While our student population is impacted by trauma, our students are resilient, tough, and compassionate children. The students are learning and thriving even in the face of tremendous adversity. Academic achievement and social and emotional learning are our school's priorities, and we are constantly striving to improve our practices. Our school is a positive and safe place for all students in our community.

My Project

SL.K.6 Speak audibly and express thoughts, feelings, and ideas clearly. SL.K.1 Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about Kindergarten topics and texts in small and larger groups. SL.K.4 Describe Familiar people, places, things, and events and, with prompting and support, provide additional detail. My students will use blocks and a market to create and explore topics we are studying in the classroom. These materials will be used to create play based centers in my classroom. Play can help students build social and academic language. Children can explore the topics they are learning about in the classroom via play. Play helps children make sense of their world, and it gives children a safe place to explore their theories. These types of play based centers also lead to authentic reasons to write and read during play.
